Default Tranny Blew in the Z71.

On the way home from Nacogdoches running around 60mph and let me just say... F**k it was loud.

Not sure exactly what happened yet but the transfer case is in pieces sitting down on the cross member, the tail cone of the trans has chunks missing, the drive shaft broke off at the u-joint, and tranny fluid is all over the place.

The trans wasn't slipping or anything so I'm thinking the transfer case locked up or chain broke.

But it looks like I'll have to replace both tranny and case.

Truck is 8 years old with 170K on it.

Looks like I'll have to drive to Camaro for a few days until its fixed.

Yep, it sounds like something bound up causing all of that. Is the rear end locked up?

No, rear end is fine.

I'm going to pull it in the morning. I'm hoping its just the T-case and not both it and tranny.

there is a roll pin that holds on the shift fork, they tend to work their way loose and rub a whole in the side of the case, causing all the fluid to poor out and lock up.... Its a common problem.. Just make sure the rear end isn't locked up or that your didn't break the sprag in the tranny when it all happened... just my .02
