Default Trans shop trying to screw me.

I carried my truck to the transmission shop, with both drive shafts out and transfer case out.-I pulled them and then decided not to pull the trans.

The estimate was ~1300 to pull and rebuild the trans (4L60E) and put everything back together.

Well, the shop called and told me that the trans case was cracked and that I must have hit something in the road to cause the damage cause the trans was ok but needed to be rebuilt anyhow. Cause it was old and worn out.

OK…. I can deal with that.

I called and filed a claim with my insurance co. so I wouldn’t have to pay for it. The adjuster went by the shop, looked at the truck, and picked up the estimate. The adjuster then called and said everything would be taken care of.

I asked the adjuster what the estimate was for and he said over 3K and went on to say that the shop estimate said that the transfer case needed rebuilding.

The Transfer case was fine.

Then the shop owner calls me this morning “upset” asking why I told the adjuster to send me the check and not to the shop. That he had needed the money to pay his bills with.
The adjuster is sending me a copy of the estimate as well as the check.

What I can’t figure out is…How did a 1300 est. Go to over 3K?
And the shop owner didn’t say **** to me about anything else wrong but the transmission.

And I even bought the rear drive shaft, off this site.

Point being…I never signed any paper giving permission to perform work on my truck and he shouldn’t be able to perform any other jobs without approval.

So, I’m only going to pay him for the work I know for a fact he did.

Sounds to me like he’s just trying to get Paid.
