it will probably get to a 5, but more than likely weaken to a 3 or 4 before it hits land. they say that only 3 cat 5 storms have ever hit US landfall.

Rooster is right, and theres a reason they dont make landfall at a cat 4 or 5. If you know anything about how the atmosphere and hurricanes work you would know. (I mean this in the nicest way possible)

When tropical storm is building up to a hurricane its gaining strength from the very warm waters that are right by cuba. As it intensifies it starts dispersing its energy that it has stored up which is why the winds get stronger and it moves up the scale. The closer its gets to land the waters start to cool down and basically the fuel supply to the hurricane is cut off and it begins to expell all of its stored up energy, downgrading in the process. All this happens BEFORE the eye even makes landfall. There are ALWAYS execptions, but not always likely. Same thing happend to Katrina and Rita and all the other bad *** storms that whip through the gulf.

Great....... I have just been put on "Hurricane Security Team" standby. They are telling us 10 day minimum stay for first shift. Expecting the call anytime between Sunday afternoon till Monday afternoon.

I did the same thing after Katrina and Rita hit. Got to see Port Arthur and Orange for the first time. Made me realize that West Texas isn't so bad.

For what it's worth we appreciate what you're doing. Both my sons and Mom are driving west on I-10 from Beaumont (whopping 5mph) since about 7pm, it's now 1:10am and they are just hitting the outskirts of Houston (barely), anyway they are headed to stay with us. Again thanks for helping out whoever gets slammed by this Hurricane Camille like storm. I said 3 days ago this one was going to hit 4 or 5 and I hate that I was right. If it does hit Cat-5 it'll be the 3rd recorded Cat-5 recorded to hit the US. Hopefully it'll calm down so we can contend with Hanna Montana and the other 3 potentials in the Atlantic.

What I cannot understand for the life of me is why Mayor Negin (think that's how it's spelled) is Mandatory Evac'ng the West Bank of NO 8am and East Bank @noon today??? I understand his technical rationale but cannot reason with his thinking of not moving everyone out yesterday. Stupid move IMO but maybe you can shed some light.

I just got back in (Houston/Tomball) around 4 this morning from Califonia and I culd not believe the traffic (not bumper to bumper) but very high from San Antonio to Austin (all along I35 and 290). Most hotels/motels are full, I tried to coax the job into letting me stay Northwest but I guess i'm needed down here lol, Don't think Houston and vicinity is going to get much anyhow.

because of the sheer hysteria of the people of the city you have to understand there are some people who have been having problems with getting their lives straight since the last hurricane .. hell im one of them. so you have to watch what you say to these people. Not to mention people from new orleans dont want to be wasting their money trying to evacuate unless its absolutely necessary. but if you have any sense you dont need someone to tell you to leave when a storm bigger than your state is headed your way that means its time to get the ****! thats why me and my fam are gone early this time...

but like i was saying who's gonna invite me to come and hang out where the cool **** goes down out here. im trying to get in on the scene nd start going to u of h.. oh yea, its about time to get ready for a new build too...

yeah, Midland/Odessa. I run out there quite a bit. I know I can beat the weather out of town, but I don't want everything to here to be hectic with the wife & kids with a hurricane in town. That's what i meant

haha, yeah pretty much. I could almost live out there if it weren't for all the dust. Definitely a car enthusiast's nightmare
