Hurrican Gustav
When tropical storm is building up to a hurricane its gaining strength from the very warm waters that are right by cuba. As it intensifies it starts dispersing its energy that it has stored up which is why the winds get stronger and it moves up the scale. The closer its gets to land the waters start to cool down and basically the fuel supply to the hurricane is cut off and it begins to expell all of its stored up energy, downgrading in the process. All this happens BEFORE the eye even makes landfall. There are ALWAYS execptions, but not always likely. Same thing happend to Katrina and Rita and all the other bad *** storms that whip through the gulf.

I did the same thing after Katrina and Rita hit. Got to see Port Arthur and Orange for the first time. Made me realize that West Texas isn't so bad.
