Default underdrive crank pulley

seriously are they worth it? what gains do you see from it? quicker revs, better acceleration? more torque? thoughts on them......I hear mixed thoughts all the time about them..

I just put one on my car and yes throttle response is better although I can't really say for sure since I put it on during a head/cam swap.

GM High Tech did a dyno pull for an article a couple years back and I think their results were right about what Mike TexaSS is saying.

Think it was on an A4 LS1 F-body, FWIW.

I had more than one time where I had to get jumped off after listening to my radio for like 10 minutes after turning the car off.

Just put one on my car over the last couple of days, along with upping the cat-back system to headers, and no cats. Will be dyno/tuning it hopefully Monday with Mike over at Gforce.

In my exp, a A4 F-body may have problems while an M6 does not. This is due to the slower idle speed on the A4. I did a UD crank pulley on my '94 Z28 A4 and it did not charge at idle (~725-750 RPM). I put an ASP UD crank pulley on my '99 Z28 M6 and it charges at idle (~850-900 RPM) and I've never had a problem. On the '94, I got an OD pulley for the alt and the problem was solved.

Of course it will depend on how much of an underdrive ratio the UD pulley actually is, along with some other factors like if you are running an amp etc.

from my research on the mod, seems that only people with automatic trannys have charging problems and some people recommend overdrive pullys for the alternator to bring the rpms of the alternator back to normal.

i've had my pulley on my M6 car for over a year and no charging/dimming issues here.

if you are going to install it yourself, be aware that the torque spec on that bolt is 250ft-lbs, so you better have a friend with a big *** torque wrench. and get your car as high as humanly possible in the air, cuz you'll need some leverage to get it on that far.

Just had long tubes put on the car and an underdrive with a new tune, and the car went from 387 RWHP to 420 RWHP....pretty good gain all together.

I have one on my vette (auto). I get the charge failure light once in a while. Maybe once every 6 months.
