Question Installing Torque Converter?

So I have been waiting an extremely long time to get my new toy in for my SS and now it is finally here! A 3800 stall. Now what tools am I going to need and about how long do you think this is going to take. I've heard dropping the tranny is probably the hardest part??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

God Bless

Dropping the tranny is pretty much the whole job... I have done a few but it is going to be hard to explain everything that is needed... All your basic tools and a 3' extension should about do it

Its really not that hard at all like bad chad said basic tools long extensions and take your y-pipe loose you can access your top bolts so much easier and make sure you seat your converter all the way on and give it a couple of spins by hand other than that you should be able to do it in one day with no problem.

raise your car HIGH! (if doing it on the ground)
the stock bolts that hold the TC are (at least on mine 2000 Z28) hex.
spin the TC over ALOT of times, i've heard the after math of when people install it they only turn it over a few times and it never locks all the way into the pump, i turned mine for a good 15-20 times..... i'm not going to distroy my tranny/converter over being lazy!

It is well worth paying someone to install it for you. Take it to your nearest F-body specialist and pay the money. Not only will it save alot of headache for yourself it will support the people who support this site. If you are in the permian basin then TSP is only a few hours away and they can also tune it for you once it is installed.

It's not just turning, it's pushing the t/c in at the same time. You have to turn & push until the converter goes "thunk" in to the transmission. That's when you know that the converter is seated on the pump. You can turn and turn, but if it never gets seated on the pump, it'll break stuff.

I've done the "call some buddies over, order pizza, and get it done in a few hours" route for t/c install. I've also done them by myself. It's not that bad, just the lowering/raising of the tranny is probably the hardest part.

I would say it's well worth doing it yourself if you are mechanically inclined at all. Call over a couple of buddies to help and take your time. Now use the $300 you saved for more mods.
