Machinist Equipment
I need like what they use to make gears, cogs ect.. donīt know what itīs called really
Years ago, I bought a Bridgeport mill from an auction place. There were Motorola stickers all over it. Plus it had all the bells and whistles, digital readout, Kurt swivel vise, power feed and the table looked brand new.
Just be patient and look around, you will find something for a good price especially now a days.
Good luck....

A vertical mill is probably the most "universal" machine out there for work. I think a horizontal mill would make cutting gear teeth a little more intuitive though.
A horizontal mill coupled with a vertical rotary index table would be ideal for cutting cogs and straight gears. But it could be done on a vertical as well...
And I agree about going big (Bridgeport sized). I have a small benchtop mill, and really, it's just a toy for me to play around with. Being in Houston, you should be able to find something easily enough.
Do some poking around those web sites and see what/how others are building gears. Lots of cool projects out there.
