I have the Matco version of the 2135ti, same gun, just a red case and it is the quiet model. Its light, has a ton of sack and is very quiet, which IMO is the best thing about it when your using it all day. The Snap On 3/8s is nice, one of the other guys in my shop has it, and it is pretty powerful, but its way to f'n loud and I'd never use it myself. I have the old SO 3/8, and it may not be anywhere near as powerful, but it gets the job done and I got it dirt cheap.

I have the ingersoll too. Its a nice impact buit It didnt break loose a 1000 ft/lbs bolt. At my last shop me and the mechanics tried it on a 1.5" nut size bolt that was torqued to 850fti/lbs and it wasnt able to budge it. But thats also 3/4" and 1" terratory.

the 2131 is good to I have that one for home use
We have this impact in my schools shop. Only been able to stop it once and its because someone put some red loctite(the heat kind) on there studs and it wouldent move no matter what! and the best thing about this gun is how easy it is to turn the power up and down

I love my 2131QT. If I every need another one, I'd probably buy the 2135 QT.

at the sears auto center we are supplied with craftsman guns (obviously lol) and they are decent. a couple of us have our own guns that definitely hit harder but all the guns in the shop last about the same due to severe daily abuse. the craftsman we use is the 19905 it is 600ft-lbs reverse. and we never really have problems with not being able to break bolts loose, but if it does happen there are enough matcos and macs in toolboxes to get it done...

Forgive the noob, but what exactly is a impact wrench? I know its used to loosen big bolts and it looks like a drill, but where does the impact part come into play?

Also, what are your thoughts on a electric impacts? I'm a parking lot mechanic and have no place to use air tools.

Jordan, an impact gun is used to loosen bolts, its what you see the pit crews use in Nascar to zip off the tire lugnuts. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but the impact all happens inside the case, all I know is on my gun I squeeze the trigger and it makes the bolts loosen or tighten Electrics can be good, but you'll likely have to drop some cash to get a good one.

they work through vanes in a motor. usually, the more vanes it has, the more powerful it will be. IR's current titanium 1000nbtq. has a 7 vane motor.

I made a beleiver out of one of the other techs in my shop last night- his old full metal case Mac gun couldn't bust loose a crank pulley bolt. I pulled out my gun and it blasted it right off, no hammering it for a few seconds to break free, it spun right out. I'm sure the IR 2135 (or my Matco-skinned version) will be residing in one of his drawers soon

Thanks for the reply Silvy. I'm not ready to spend $300 for a good cordless impact wrench. Looks like my breaker bar (and I) will be getting a workout this weekend.
