I'm buying my first welder with my tax return. I've been researching and have found that everyone suggests the major companies such as lincoln, miller, esab and hobart. I want to get a AC/DC TIG machine so I can TIG aluminum. I really didn't want to spend over 1,500 total with buying a cylinder of Argon. I found an Econotig and an ESAB Heliarch 161 that are in my price range. From what I've read, the ESAB unit seems to be a better unit, but I have no experience. I was hoping for a sound opinion on what to do.

I have had miller, esab and lincoln. I have a small lincoln right now and love it. Personally I would haggle with the welding shop but you can get a turn key setup for under 1500 for a nice welder. Just remember haggle.... I waited for a deal and got my complete 225 lincoln tig for 1400 ish. Other choice is craigslist or see if there is any trade ins at the welding shop.
Personally I would save up the lil bit more and get way more functions..
