FYI from what I see of it in my service manual,,,, It is gonna be expensive unless you are a GM service mechanic, it will probably be a 1 time use tool, the tool is a J-41479 in my service manual though, I am sure the stealership can get it for you. I just use a drift-punch and a block of wood and walk the seal into the cover myself.
Hope this helps

Use a PVC pipe cap. I forget if it was here or on performance trucks that I read that, but it worked great. IIRC it is a 3" PVC pipe plug like this and it fit perfectly

Hey thanks for the reply. I know this might be a stupid question but how exactly do i use this. Do i just put the seal on the end of it and tap it in until it is sitting all the way down against the rear cover? I have also heard there are a couple different seals you can get. Do you know the difference? This is the one Im going to order. http://speed-eng.com/store/lsx-rear-...l-p-10873.html This is my first time installing a rear seal on an LS motor so Im just covering all the bases so I dont screw it up. Thanks!

also i just read that you should put thread sealer on flywheel bolts, some people replace the seal while the bolts may be where the oil leaks from

Usually the difference in the material. I know for the lt1 they make a rubber one and a teflon one. For the flywheel bolts put locktight on them and torque them to spec in a star pattern

Yep, I just centered the cover around the crank (doesn`t apply if you are replacing the seal and leaving the cover on the motor). I put the seal over the crank and up against the back cover, put the pipe cap on the back and tapped the back of the pipe cap with a hammer until the seal slid all the way in.
