Is there a safe way to extract a helicoil? I need to remove and reinstall a new helicoil farther in without damaging the threads (aluminum) that hold the helicoil.
Thanks,
Tim

i've been told to think of a helicoil as a small spring and that if you use a center punch to break it in the middle it should come out. i've never seen them removed so i don't know how to explain it any better. but my automotive intructor at the vo-tech told me that so it should be correct.

Is it loctited? Is the little tab still on the bottom of it? I've never really had to remove one so this could be interesting....
If it's not held in with loctite you can try gently removing it with an easy-out.
