Question Sparkplug wire pullers

Those plug boots require a pretty good tug to remove and a good push to install. I'm thinking about making my life easier by getting a good remove/install tool. Which one is recommended for F-bodies? Thanks for your reply.

Oh the pains of old age, lol! My fingers lock when I clench my fist. Sometimes my arthritis acts up or bending over in awkward positions gives me a backache. I'll be more than happy to part with a few $s to avoid that.

I'll admit, 20 years ago, I would have laughed at this thread too! But the saying may be true..... the older you get, the wiser you become.

Now, anybody got a tool recommendation?

I've owned one but I never used it on a LS1 before. I'm not sure if you'll be able to get into those tight spaces.

There are a couple of different styles that I've used before.
This type:

and this type:

I'd probably get both styles.. The first type may be easier to use for 5,7,6,8 where the plier style one might be easier for 1,2,3,4.

I've used both styles.. but when I do wires I don't ever reach for those tools unless the wires are siezed to the spark plug.. And even then I end up damaging the wires

I've got a set of these: http://www.lislecorp.com/tool_detail.cfm?detail=908

Never used them on my Camaro, clearance is just damn tight. I know they are good on C5's though.

Also in the past I've used those pliars, and a pry bar. Clamp the boot with the pliars, and use the pry-bar against the pliars. Works great in tight spots where you can't get leverage, or in a spot where you may cut your hand yanking on a plugwire.

Be sure to use lots of Dielectric grease on the wires before re-installing them. They'll pop right off next time you need to remove them

I bought a pair of pliers similar to the red ones pictured above except the head is adjustable for different angles. I got them at napa I went and looked at them but couldnt find a part #. I also employ the pry bar method to get the back plugs off.

HAHA! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only hack that does that.

You should hear the comments I have to put up with at work when I use a prybar to change spark plugs
