"Just in case tool bag"
normal car just gets jumper cables, an LED flashlight, a multi tool (cheap knock off leatherman type thing) and one of those flip around 6 way screwdrivers, race car same deal without the jumper cables. Parts chaser/truck/tow vehicle has all that, straps, 30' trucker's chain, a bunch of network cable (use it for tieing stuff down), and my jy crawling tool kit which has a couple of vise grips (one with the 3 sided nut grabbing jaws), a pair of dikes, a cheap socket set that I dont care about loosing...
1/2" LONG ratchet with a lugnut-sized socket
7mm hex driver
flat+philips tip screwdrivers
10mm, 12, 13, 15, 17mm sockets 3/8 drive
same size ratchet wrenches
Klein crimper/wire cutter
Spare fuses
Maglite
8" and 12" crescent wrenches
Channel locks
Small ball-peen hammer
Duct tape
Fits in my 16x4x6 tool bag no problem (1/2" snap-on flex-head ratchet fits folded inside), never had to call a tow truck.
I drove a '96 S-10 for a while, and I'd never know when I'd have to replace a radiator or pound in a tranny seal on the side of the road, haha. Probably why I carry what I do.
Lots of water bottles on a long (200+mi) trip, just in case.
