What to use when a plug breaks off in the head? Check this out
This is not on my LSX but I have to show you guys anyway. I swapped out the plugs on my second car which is a 95 Mustang GT. The #1 plug freakin broke off clean at the threads! It was a good thing that the ceramic part came out clean leaving a clear hole. I used a 9/16" bolt extractor but landed up BREAKING 3 forged wrenches and 1 -3/8"drive 10MM socket which I had hammered onto the extractor. I then went and bought a high quality 1/2" drive 10MM socket and hammered it on to the extractor . I then used a 24" long, 1/2"drive breaK bar and believe me if I tell you I have to put well over 100ft.lbs of torque against the bar. Well when it budged and I heard that first metal to metal "creak" , it was music to my ears. Check out the photos. The car is a 95 and has 37,000miles and I'm sure these are the original plugs. Since I wasn't sure if I would be able to fix this horror without pulling the head, I took my Camaro out of storage yesterday and now I have both my cars on the road.
