It's actually called Black Beauty. It is crushed coal. It is used where regualar sand cannot be used. Many processing plants do not allow blast sand inside because of the dust and liability(yes Silicosis), so blasting must be done with an alternative media. Black Beauty is the most common. It's almost double the price of blast sand.
