What tool releases plastic pop rivets?
Plastic pop rivets secure the air inlet screen below the windshield. Is there a special tool or can these be released with a flat screwdriver. I want to not damage these fasteners.

those can be released with a flathead screwdriver, never seen a special tool for them.
the center of them pulls out, and releases the fastener.
but as cannibal said, thats how normal pop rivets work, the ones your talking about not pop rivits, but i don't know what they are called?

Snap on makes pliers that are made to slip under the inner portion and pull it up to release it. The mechanic I work with has one. Flat screwdriver and dykes work as good as anything I've tried. Don't worry about damaging them you can get cheap replacements at most dealers.
