Opinions on welders
The go-to machine now is an Everlast combo TIG /
stick / plasma cutter; stick gets the most use and
the machine is much nicer than my old AC buzz box,
has some nice arc stabilization in stick mode. Have
used the plasma cutter a tiny bit and the TIG, not
at all yet. But I wanted the capability, because why
not?
Have a cheapo HF flux cored "MIG" which I've used
for chassis work, on car - unscrew the useless "cup"
and wrap the head in fiberglass tape, and you can get
up into areas nothing else will.
Big old Hanson MIG, I have not tried to run in maybe
10 years. Got used at a welding shop for a nice price.
If you're looking for a small unit, check out local welding
supply places for used models, people outgrow them
and trade them in. You can probably get some kind of
warranty out of a welding supply shop, unlike a pawn
shop, especially if they do servicing on other machines
they sell.
