For everyone who doesn't go to Garage journal, here is info on the group buy. You could join in by emailing the man on the intro page of the group buy. Its almost to 300 people so far, which is incredible. This was all fueled by the OP of this thread's review on Garage Journal, so props and many thanks to him. FYI, I ordered two just this week.

The only problem/concern I have with buying an off brand item like that, is if it doesn't use a normally available consumables, if they go out of business, your screwed. If it uses something that you can buy for a name brand, then your good to go.

The one I have, Colossal, uses harbor freight consumables. Plus there are tons of consumables on eBay. There are actually one a few variations of them on eBay and all use same consumables.

Still working great been using it almost daily for 2 months now.

Should have bought one of these a long time ago. A real timesaver and a great value for the little $$ it costs.

Nevermind, it seems the D works on 110/220 and the F is a pilot Arc.

If I could score the CUT50D for under $200, and only plan to use it as a hobbyist, would it be worth saving the $100 bucks or so to skip the Pilot Arc feature?

I would not even consider any cutter that lacks the pilot arc. Think about it and keep it in perspective. Use 220v and pilot arc and you are good to go. 110v does not provide a rock solid amp source.

Damn. I guess I'll keep looking around. $190 seemed like a killer deal for a 50 amp plasma.

I am not to worried about $50 or 100. I'd rather just order it and have it shipped right now.

These don't seem to be going for $270 anymore.

The cheapest I can find a Cut-50F is $369. The link the OP posted has them jacked up by $1000, likely because they are out of stock.

What are the differences between each version (i.e. R vs F) and which one is the best?

Dunno but my R version has the amps display. Near as I can tell they made internal updates and added the external amps display.

R has regulator and digital display. The "F" model is the only one wit Pilot Arc....the Pilot Arc is easier on the consumables, since you don't have to touch, or drag the torch along the surface that you are cutting.

My "R" model has a pilot arc as it spits out a flame 1/4 inch even if I hold it in the air and not near the grounded work piece.

That's good to know, as it's not listed as a Pilot Arc. I would have ordered that one instead, just to see the PSI, in the front. Dang it....
