Tool chests - value shopping
I am comparing 5 drawer top tool chests from Sears and Husky. Sears is $220 on sale this week compared to $120 for the Husky - same size units.
The Huskey seems every bit as good or better than the Sears.
I'm I missing something or is the Sears box a rip-off?
I guess it is like the Sears room air conditioner I bought this weekend for $350;A similar model with slightly more BTUs was being sold at Depo for $228 (screwed by Sears gain!)

Are the drawers ball bearing on either one? I got mine from Sears and think I got a pretty good deal. If you keep you eye out, you can get good deals from Sears. Now is a good time for sales because of Father's day coming up.

Im a snap on guy through and through... but im pretty satisfied with the tools offered by sears, as well as their warranty! I have NEVER EVER had ANY hassle by Sears for replacement of anything from sockets broken without a reciept, to battery powered drills! Just my 2 cents though... when it comes to tools id rather buy a warranty than a tool... the tool is guarenteed to break, I Want to make sure someone is guarenteed to fix it! Of course there is a fine line when it comes to quality of the tools as well! Which is why I stick with Snap On whenever I can

The only Sears chest I have a problem with is
my Craftsman rollaround base. The slides are
non-ball-bearing and the "heavy" drawer (the
bottom one with all my pullers, impact drivers
etc.) won't stay on the tracks so I had to put
a couple of pieces of 1"x8" lumber in there for
it to sit on. This is the "homeowner" grade one
(says "Home Tool Storage").
I do believe you will do better at a pawn shop
or the flea market, if you can stand to have a
pre-beat-up chest. And, hey, dings and rust
give you instant "garage cred", right?

Check out the Kobalt line of tool chests at Lowes. They look almost identical to the Craftsman boxes, without the griplock drawers (which I don't like anyways). Same manufacturer???

waterloo makes the craftsman boxes. i currently have a 40 inch craftsman ball bearing tool chest that i saved about $200 on because they had a cheaper 40 inch ball bearing with a different drawer configuration that i wanted but was out of stock and since salesman at sears are on commision the salesman took the one i got down to the price of the other.

I have a small Husky 5 Drawer, and I have the Huge Husky (20 Drawer?) I have had the small one for 2 years now with no problems it doesnt have ball bearings but it opens and shuts fine, the big one does have ball bearings and opens and shuts very nice. I have been looking at the big one for a while, I finally decided to get the big one when Home Depot had an offer if you apply for there credit card you get 12 months intrest free, and 10% off your first order
