Header to floor clearance question

Header to floor clearance question I'm building my first set of headers and I am looking for recommendations on minimum clearance from the v-band/collector to floor while I am setting up. 1/2" minimum or more?
Other info-
Car is an old bmw getting an LS. Header is a tri-y due to space. Collector goes into a 3" so with V band diameter is ~3.5". Area that collector is going is only about 3.5" from floor to bottom of body. Motor will be on poly mounts. Car is a manual and built for street use so I would like to keep good ground clearance. I have not found any good threads addressing this, but thought there must be some basic rule of thumb.
