Default Cleaning engine block deck

What tools are you guys using to clean engine block decks as well as all sealing surfaces?

I use scotch Brite pads all the time, works great. Spray a little brake clean on the pad then rub. (edit after reading other people) yes they can leave residue and you have to make sure to clean it up after, don't just rub it in and leave it.

I wouldn't go anywhere near internal engine parts with a Scotchbrite pad that couldn't be sent through a parts washer afterwards. To clean the deck I just use plastic razor blades (aluminum block) or regular razor blades (iron block). Tedious, but gets everything off. Then go over it with a shop vac and lots of brake cleaner. Be sure the bolt holes are cleaned out and dry.
