Question about using a tap

2 of the holes in my ATI balancer got completely stripped...they were 10mm

I got a tap that says 12mm x 1.50
I went to home depot to buy the bolts and the 12mm came in "12mm, 1.70 (.75 etc...) 30mm, 35mm, etc...

am i being retarded here, and is home depot giving me the length in both inches and mm? ie, 1.70"=35mm?

I can't find any conversion tables....

Also, since the threads are stripped...do i just cut put the tap and start it like i'm cutting a fresh hole?

What ever tap you use make sure the bolts you buy match the tap. Before tapping the new threads be sure to drill the right size hole first. Most taps either come with a sheet telling you what size hole to drill, some have it printed right on the tap. If the hole is to small you may break the tap, they are fragile.
