I just got a dewalt 18v drill with the 1/2 chuck and i love the hell out of it. This thing gets down to business. Was $199 but worth every bit of it. Had cord drills before and believe me the cordless is so much better. I have a buddy that has a dewalt 12v and another one with the 14.4v and they are all great. From all the drills i have used dewalt seems to be where its at.

The only time I have used the hammer selection (you can select it on a dial) is to start self tapping screws on metal roofing. As far as drilling steel I use the normal setting on #3 which is the highest rpm. My other 3/8 drive 18v drill only goes to #2 which is slower. That is the main reason I got the 1/2" drive is its faster & holds bigger bits. Also my two regular batteries went dead in the 1st year. My XR batteries are still going strong after 3 years. But keep in mind I built my house, 1,600 sq ft shop and a 36X36 barn with these plus a whole lot more so maybe I use mine a lot more than others?
So much passion for our tools...

I have a 19.2V craftsman I got last year for christmas and it works great, and is more than powerful enough.

I used to not like the ideas of cordless, until my dad got a decent one, and realized how convienent it was. Just make sure you get 2 batteries.
