Default AN wreches, who has them?

Well I wanted to know who has them. As popular as they are on race cars I am very shocked that the snap-on,mac,craftsman all don't have them! Oh and if you have them how many 2 sets for the fittings!

negative.

I've used GM stuff to do swaps, not AN fittings.

I bought a set of AN wreches from Summit. So far they have been great and the price wasn't bad either. They are also now making an adjustable AN wrench that's really cool. It's not in the main catalog yet but it should be on the website, it was in one of the smaller books that they send out every now and then.

AN stands for Army/Navy. I guess back in the day it used to be their standard fitting but it is now used buy the aftermarket alot for things like nitrous set ups, fuel systems, cooling sytems and many more uses. Basicly they are a 37* tappered aluminum/steel fittings that provide a leak proof seal without the use of sealants or tape. The numbers go in 1/16" increments so -4AN=1/4".

Here's a few pics I took off Summit's site.

I thought I would have more people that didn't know! I can't belive Snap-On doesn't have them I mean all the top race cars have them! Any one with NOS or a fuel system! I will be buying two sets but I was looking for the set that had the "boxed" end holes in the handle!

I have a set of double sided AN wrenches that I bought from Hoerr Racing Products (IMHO one of the BEST race shops out there). I have also used the Weaver Combination wrenches... They are awesome when working on a tube frame race car... with lots of room... but in the tight confines of a Street car... i don't really think you would ever get to use them.

AN fittings are used for steel braided or nomex hoses. you almost have to have them if you don't want to scratch the fittings. make sure you get some with a thin profile or you'll have trouble squeezing them in tight spaces. mine are aluminum and color coded.

We just use our regular old Snap-in-half wrenches on fittings like that on our airplanes.

I've plumbed my fuel and tranny/cooler and engine oil/cooler systems on my Chevelle entirely with ss and an fittings. You can do it without the fancy wrenches and still not leave marks on the fittings. It just take a bit more prep and attention to detail.

That being said, I'd have a set if I was loaded. But there are other tools that I could spend my money on that i'd get more use out of in the long run.

I've always just used a real good quality set of flare nut wrenches (Snap-On, MAC, Matco) which usually have smoother drive faces than, say, Craftsman. You can also line the inside of the wrench with vinyl or masking tape if you are really worried about scratching a fitting. True aircraft fittings have a very hard, anodized surface and scratching is somewhat rare.
