Shipping an engine block
Shipping an engine block How do most of you guys ship an engine block? ANyone have plans or dimensions for a crate? What carriers did you use and what did they charge you?
Shipping Engine Block I recieved an engine block through Lynden Air Freight and it was very affordable and I got it fast with good communication . Making a crate is very easy , just give yourself ample room on all sides and I recommend using a metal strap with holes in it to bolt into the block and anchor it to the crate , like an L shaped bracket . One in the front using a bolt hole for the front cover and one in the rear in the bellhousing's bolt hole . Also support the block between the main caps if they're installed with bolts as to not stress the threads in the block . If you need more info PM me . I wouldn't want to risk damaging a block , it is only aluminum and we've seen how airports treat luggage .
I had mine delivered from Old Dominion from LPE.
To send mine back, I used the pallet mine came on.
I used Fedex; I had to take the motor to them, but it was only $76.00.
All the big freight places had several problems:
1. No one would come down my street for pickup; residential
2. If they did come , I had to get the motor into the truck; they charged an extra $60 for liftgate service.
3. No one was under $140.
