That's because you tried to get fancy and cut the head off a bolt to make it nice and smooth. It sure looks pretty, but you could always just hack off a chunk of threaded rod, and weld the washer to it...

I'll be using the tool here pretty soon, we have a cam swap to do in the g/f's car..

how much for the crank puller by its self?

I had a whole bin full of bolts so I used them. Might be different when I have to buy more. I use a big chop saw to cut them. As far as the puller I am thinking $25.00 plus shipping.

I just got the tool delivered today. Looks good. Nice welds. My roomate was like WTF is that!

I just wish my pulley made it here in time. Looks like Monday or Tuesday for me.
