Default how many ft-lbs?

im about to install my UMI short stick and it says to tighten the bolts of the short stick to the shifter 18 ft-lbs. do you need a special tool to read the torque? i have the socket wrench and everything needed..but how am i suppose to know how much torque i put on the bolt?

Dosen't really matter on a shifter stick. Just don't tighten it so much that you break it. Normally, a TQ wrench would be needed if indeed it really mattered if it were TQ'd.
