Default I need a poer steering pulley puller.

It seems I need a special puller to get the pulley off. Or is there another way to get it off the head?

Can I get this tool at any auto parts store?

Most parts stores sell these pullers for cheap. Some even rent them if you are going to use it only once. Better yet, take the whole unit off and bring it to the parts store and have them take the pulley off and install it on the new pump.

I think the power steering design where the PS fluid is "heated/cooled" with the raditor juice (antifreeze) is a bad idea and is responsible for many PS pump failures.... Another GM engineering wonder!

Getting the PS pump off a Gen 3 car is a real nut buster.... one bolt head is really hidden and takes a long time to remove with a stubby....

good luck!

Yes. Yes. Both have these tools....

for a small fee, they usually will remove and install the old pulley on the new pump...

Dont pull the lines off of the pump unless you have to (don't know if you are changing heads or the ps pump) becuase it is a pain in the butt to bleed the ps system.

I don't remember having trouble bleeding my PS pump. I know there is a bleed screw on the hydrolic arm below the K-member. I can;t remember if I messed with this, however...

You don't need to take the plley off. You can get a 15mm wrench in there, it just takes some patience.

I took my pulley off for detailing (using a puller from Advance), but I cannot figure out the thread size to make an installation tool. It seems like 9mm would be right, 8mm is too small and 10mm is too big. Nothing fractional seems to fit... Problem is, I can't find any 9mm bolts! I hate to buy yet another pulley tool, does anybody know the thread size?

TIA!

Russ

Nevermind! It's standard 3/8-16 thread, there was a piece of the plastic trim button blocking the inside of the hole...
