I'm looking into purchasing a plasma cutter. I would like it to be able to cut 3/8" thick steel cleanly. I've looked at the Hyperthem, Thermal Dynamics, Snap-On, Miller, etc., but I'd like some real world experience/input... the stuff they don't tell you in the sales brochures.

What is the best quality plasma cutter?

What is the best value (maybe not the best, but the best bang for the buck)?

I would also be interested in hearing if people have negative opinions on any particular brand as well so I stay away from those.

miller at work is awesome, cuts up to 1/2" single pass.. the people next door have a HUGE one that they use to cut 1" thick steel.

 

I personally like Hypertherm because plasma cutting is all what they do, they are not into tools, or welders, just plasma cutters

 

I like my thermal dynamics, does everything I want.

i have the hypertherm 600 and it works great. Hypertherm is known to be one of the best.

i have used several and thermal dynamics is my choice

 

x2 on the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 81. You'll never need more cutting power on automotive projects...well, unless you restore tanks for a hobby

I have the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 51. Awsome performance haven't had any limitations or problems with it.

 

We have a Hypertherm 1000 at work. We used it up to 3/4" armor plate . Cuts like a hot knife through buttah'
