Default Angle Die Grinder

I'm looking into getting a angle die grinder. Was wondering which ones you'd recommend?

I've noticed the following ones and wondered what people's views on these were:

Chicago Pneumatic angle die grinder:

http://www.maxtool.com/cgi-bin/dbsea...AT2=CPDGrinder

Ingersoll-Rand:

http://www.maxtool.com/cgi-bin/dbsea...25,DB_CAT2=Adg

These are just some I found when searching around, any others to suggest to look into?

Thanks!

Ted

I have the IR301 and have had good luck with it. I got mine off ebay with a case, about 8 roloc pads and the roloc backing pad. I think i paid around $80 or so. I also have a cheap (harbor freight special) regular die grinder i bought for about $14, seems to work good. From my experience harbor freight is hit or miss, i know i had to return a 1/4" air ratchets before getting a good one, which has lasted about 2 years now, not bad for $12. HF is pretty good about returning stuff.

i find straight ones work alot better than angled. not the actual function but being able to shove the straight one down holes farther and such. no knucles to get in the way for the most part. but IR is the way to go.

I’ve got a few of them floating around, including the IR as well as a few straight ones. Until I got my first angled one I used to swear by the straight ones with “there’s nothing or at least very little that you can’t do with a straight one that you can with an angled one” until I got and angled one and found how nice they are for surface prep type work.

Anyway, I have that IR301 as well as the similar straight IR, and to be honest I have always been disappointed with them, I always felt that they were underpowered.

I tried a few others, including a string of cheap ones like the Campbel housfiel ones (the new blue ones), and honestly, I’ve decided that the ones that I like the best are some of the cheap HF ones… WRT to the angled ones my current favorite is actually this one:

the wrenches that came with it are TOTALLY worthless, but the grinder actually works great. The only thing that I don’t’ like about it is the rear exhaust, but I don’t know that I’ve seen a front exhaust angle die grinder…
