Default tube notcher

Can you guys recommend a cheap good tubing notcher? I've been looking at one made by Pro Tools.

We bought one from Harbor freight for about $60.

It's not the best in the world, but it has served us well building cages notching 1 3/4" .120 wall DOM tubing.

Just put your drill press on a LOW speed and keep the bushing well lubricrated.

I just bought the one from Harbor Freight today for $39. It is on sale on the website. Print it out and take the page with you. Obviously I don't know how it works yet...

If you are going to MIG weld the joint, look at the notching tool that is sold by Williams LowBuck tools. Very fast but joint fit up isn't perfect.

If you are going to TIG, get one that uses a hole saw, but get a bi-metal blade. The cheaper ones are less rigid and you have to go slower to keep the blade from jumping. On my HF tool, the threaded part of the spindle eventually fatigued off, but it lasted a couple of years

For the all-meat-weenie, look at the tool from Metzler that uses a mill cutting tool in a fixture to machine the joint. fit up is perfect
