Default Paint guns?

Im about to by a paint gun kit, cause my dad is buying an air compressor. I just want to do some small projects like painting my intake lid so i can learn how to paint. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kit to buy? I only want to spend around 100$, and have been looking at the vapor kits.

Also where do I buy the paint to use with the gun

What kind of compressor is your dad looking to buy? If it's a regular 110v compressor that only flows like 7cfm@90psi you'lll probrably want to look at LVLP guns (low volume low pressure), basicly low air guns. The Astro EVO is probrably the nicest entry level LVLP at about $85. If your just doing lids, intakes, tail light filler panels, and stuff like that, you may want to start out with a mini gun. In most cases they require less air and have better atomization than a full size gun. Astro makes a pretty nice mini for about $75, CA Tech makes a real nice complete mini kit with 3 tips for about $150 or, for $200 you can step up to a Devilbiss SRI. You can easily do whole bumpers with the SRi no sweat, it has a larger cup and the pattern will go up to a full 8".

Thanks alot for the help, i think hes looking at like a 30gal craftsman compressor, just the regular ones they have on display at the store not to sure about the specs. I think thats the biggest he would go.

This kit looks real nice http://www.spraygunworld.com/products/Titan/19221.html
When I have some more time ill look at the ones you reccomended.

and youve got one badass camaro, love the gfx.

It sounds like the compressor I use. It's a Craftsman 33 gallon 2hp. For base and clear I run two devilbiss GFG 670s, they take like 9cfm at 29psi, the compressor keeps up decent but I probrably couldn't do a whole car. I also use an Astro QUL for primer but it's alittle much for that compressor, especially with a big tip on the gun.

Thanks for the compliment.

Get a "bigger" compressor. You will not be sorry. Home depot has some decent ones. Get an big inline water seperator/filter and hook it up to the compressor. I have three inline seperators at various locations throughout the air line. Drain your compressor after you use it. Harbor Frieght Tools has nice compressor parts/ accesories.

You will use less paint if you buy a HVLP gun. Paint is getting real high cost now days. Sata is a great gun but it cost alot. go to the paint store and ask for a devilbiss GTI I think they are cheaper. You can have it for life and will save alot of cash in the long run. Good luck

Look in the phone book under auto paint supplies. If you have O'reilly Auto around, they sell auto paints by the pint too. I have a Harbor Freight $50 HVLP gun and a $10 small detail gun with a Sears 26gal / 2HP vertical compressor. I've painted small parts, a whole truck bed, truck cab and several other things. Keeps up just fine and does a decent job using base/clear.
