They're okay. Not terribly powerful. I prefer air power... if you don't have air, they're better than nothing.

Torque wrench (not electric impact).

I've used a Snap On one. It was very nice. For near $500, though, it oughta be.

Then again, things that sit around with batteries in them... inevitably the batteries fail at an inopportune moment and you have to scurry around looking for new ones... or a battery pops and leaks goo all over the inside of your torque wrench.

I just stick with my old fashioned Armstrong torque wrench. No batteries required.

Oops... ya I got that, lol! I haven't used the electronic tq wrenches and for what I need, they're not necessary. If I need real precision, I'll break out my SR beam-type tq wrenches.

Are you using it for an engine build?

I used a old-fashined type for my motor.

I have a Snap on 3/8" digital torque wrench and I love it. It's about $300, but is worth it because I use it at my job almost every day.

I've had bad experiences with craftsman torque wrenches.

I have a tech-memo wrench from snap on. It's accurate to 1 percent. I love it. It vibrates and beeps when the correct torque has been reached. You can watch the readout while it's climbing so you know that it's dead on. Does ftlbs, inchlbs, and nm. The model I have has a usb cable to record all your torque readings to a computer so if you own a shop you have everything on record for the customer. They are fantastic but, they are very expensive. I would recommend one if you run a shop but for shade-tree's their just not practical.

I have a click type craftsman 1/2" wrench but im looking for a really precise 3/8" snapon perferrably cause my 1/2" doesnt even measure below 25ftlbs. Can someone reccamend me one? Will the 3/8" do fine for building motors and everything also.

Look at the supported torque range for the wrench. For building a motor, yes, 3/8" should be fine, because they're typically good to 100 ft-lbs. The only fastener (that I can think of) that goes over that rating is the harmonic dampener bolt (LS1 = 250 ft-lbs or "half a turn past Jesus Tight", whichever comes first ). Mains, head bolts, rod bolts, etc are all under 100 ft-lbs. And remember, the wider the range, the less the accuracy (100 ft-lb wrench at 1% accuracy is accurate to within 1 ft-lb; a 250 ft-lb wrench at 1% accuracy is accurate to within 2.5 ft-lbs).

This is the one I have. It goes from 5 to 100 ft lbs. and can also measure in inch lbs. The price is just a little over $300, but it's worth it.

I used one one time to torque the front balancer bolt on an LS1. I hated it. IT may be Alright when you get in the common 50-100 FtLb range but at 225(If I remember right) It was a bitch. With the old Click type wrench you have a little room when torque is desired. With the electric wrench it was kinda hit on the fly. The one I used was a Snap on and I have a MAtco on the truck. Also be aware of the new Snap on torque wrench with the new Torque andgle guage built in. If you torque a bolt to say 150 and then another 75 degrees, If the total goes past what the wrench is rated for and it screws up, Snap on wil not warranty it. Just a heads up

Why would you use the wrench to go the additional 75 degrees and not a breaker bar? Whats the highest torque bolt on the motor tho except the balancer bolt?

The torque angle guage is built into the torque wrench for torque to yeald bolts
