That's what I was thinking after you said no exhaust. That's the purpose the sand serves is to simulate a solid tube. Just make sure it's packed tight with no air pockets.

that one from northern tool doesn't have any kind of angle markings on it.

I don't understand why i can't find the lever style hand bender, I haven't found one that goes above 2"....

this is getting to be a PITA

I bought the Model 3 tubing bender for $300 to fabricate roll cages.

www.jd2.com

It only goes up to 2" pipe. Might be worth a call to see if they have anything to accept tubing as large as exhaust tubing.

unfortunatly they dont,
good decent bender my neighbour just bought one, make sure the dies are good though. If the pipe is thin walled it does kink the first portion where its clamped but it might be the die it self doing that.

That's a PIPE bender - much different than a TUBING bender.

Pipe is measured ID and tubing is measured OD.

Matt, did you ever get any more info?

I was looking at this guy

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=35336 ($199), but I occasionally get 15% coupons via email.

You can download the manual from their site: http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals...5999/35336.PDF

Page 4 of the manual reads:
The pipe bender is designed to bend water pipe and heavy gauge galvanized pipe that is used in commercial applications. When bending thin-walled pipe eg conduit etc, you may have problems with the pipe becoming kinked or creased. To limit the amount of creasing, fill the pipe with sand and cap teh ends before bending.

I remember seeing mandrel ***** on ebay before as well. You can put some of them in the pipe before a bend as well as the sand.

Make sure before you pack the sand in the tube, to bake it and get rid of all the moisture. I wouldn't want to be there if you have to heat the pipe to bend it, and there's moisture, POP!

Also, Jeg's sells them for pretty cheap and they get to your house in 2 days.

Jegs sell the benders? or the pre bent pieces?

How the heck would you cap a pipe and fill it? plumbing rubber cap? or actually weld it closed? thats a lot of work for each bend.
