Default Tire inflation device recommendation?

Tired of having to always go to the gas station to fill up my tires, I decided to get my own pump. So I head down to the local Pep Boys and get one of those portable tire inflator/jump start battery combo dealies for $60. I haven't tried the jump starting capability of the unit, but I gotta say the tire inflation capability really sucks. It took about 8 minutes to fill my tire up by 5 psi, and the damn thing started smoking at that point so I had to shut it off. So I'm gonna return this thing and try something better.

Anybody have any recommendations? I saw some air compressor units at the Pep Boys for a little more than $100. Maybe I should just get one of those and an attachment so I can fill up my tires?

Bringing this one back up, what did you get?

I was looking at these:

A few:

The B&D has AC and DC power capabilities, which sounds nice. I occasionally have slicks that are totally flat, so I'd rather not buy something that takes 20 minutes to air up a fully flat tire.

On those portable units, they have no problem going 0-40 psi. It's only when you wante to go up to 50 psi and above that they start struggling.

This is the one I have:

Hehe I bought two, couldn't wait.

I got this one at Home Depot:

Took a long time to air up flat slicks, but did work. I also ordered a B&D one that supposedly is faster, we'll see.

i got a 9.99 walmart air pump and it works great. if it was taking so long to air your tire up, do you have a leak? dumb question if it needed air. also, if it is 0 psi it does take quite a bit longer then going from say 20psi to 30 psi.
