Is my engine hoist busted? I borrowed a friends engine hoist to pull a motor. I noticed right away when I started to use it that it was leaking some oil out of the hydraulic cylinder at the bottom where you jack. Eventually after a while it quit jacking up and had no pressure. Is there any way I can add more hydraulic fluid in the cylinder? Even just a new Hydraulic Cylinder is about $75 and I really dont think I should buy it since the seal was already blown. Thanks guys.
same thing happened to me. i borrowed a buddy's hoist and started leaking right away. there should be a plug on side of cylinder. i filled it back up and has worked perfect for last two years. just seemed that the rust on cylinder made the seal leak but now that it is used regularly i have not had a problem with it. use Regular hydraulic jack oil. can buy at any parts store
You know, part of me would like to scold you for that.
But then again, it's Harbor Freight. They sell so much CRAP that they deserve it.
I've bought my fair share of crap from them, and, admittedly, still do. I've bought some good stuff, some tools I use all the time, but then again, I have bought some real junk there... stuff that breaks on the first use or just plain doesn't work well at all.
