Default Tube bender?

I'm looking for a lower end (non mandrel) tubing bender that will bend some .090 1-3/4" for roll bars, but I'd need the dies for 1" as well. Most of these come with conduit dies which are ID measured and have oddball sizes. I thought about just getting one of those cheap and having a shop make me some dies as needed.

That's a JD2 Model 3. I have one and it is fine. Alot of the fabricators are now favoring the JMR Model 1000. There is also the protools model 105 to choose from.

.

I thought mandrel bends were required for roll bars. You are not allowed to have the thin spots. Just to be safe, call the division office before you waste money. Good luck.

The bends these machines produce are high quality. Even a true mandrel bender is going to stretch and compress the metal while bending it. Think about it it's gotta or the tube will break. Anyway, I've purchased roll cages from the "pros" and bent my own. For the most part, you can't tell the difference in the bends.

JD2 Model 3 here... I've had it for close to 10 years. Built 2 full tube chassis cars and probably 10 cages, 10 winch bumpers and so on. It's held up just fine.

The JD2 Model 3 bender is the basis for what the majority of fabricators use to build cages. I have 2 manual and one hydraulic.

You are correct! It does not have to be mandrel bent.

he's talking about www.pirate4x4.com .. great resource! If you don't give a flying frisbie about "hard core rockcrawling" then just go there to check out the "Shop Tools" forum.

Yeah there is alot of good fabrication info on that site. I just ordered the plans for a bender for $17.99. We will see how it goes. I like the idea of saving some $$$ and building it myself. It will be pnuematic also. No manual stuff here.
