Painting the garage

Close on my house tommorow and need to think of a paint scheme for it.
2 car garage that with have the Red Z in it, will also epoxy coat the floor.
Want to do two colors on the walls, bottom half black, upper half red to match the car. Any other suggestions on the colors?
Should I have a thin stripe to transition from the black to the red? I can't think of a color that would look good.
Also going to put up some nice ceiling fans and lights.

and reflects the light better... to look in mine everybody thinks i put twice as many lights in there....but it makes a hell of a difference. but i understand you want to make it classy.. so why not something like a 6" stripe or somehting?

White White White! Get lots of lights. Celing fans are excellent! If you do decide you have to go with red paint a light blue or grey as your first coat otherwise you will need 3-5 coats of red to cover. Dont cheap out on the eppoxy floor like I did stay away from that home depot crap. I just painted my chimney white and it made a huge difference. Lots of lights are your friends.

Yeah, if you do dark colors, the garage will really feel small and it will be difficult to light it up.
If you want to do a red and black theme, do a 6" black stripe, then a 2" white stripe (wall color) and then another 6" red stripe. It will look good, and won't be too dark.

Gotta agree with everyone here, bright colors make it a lot easier to work. Just work your red and black in as accents somewhere if you want it to look fancy, but avoid dark colors covering the walls.

which epoxy are you using? go to Sherwin Williams and do what they say. I bought the quikrete brand and spent fifteen hours prepping the floor. It is now eleven days later and some areas are still wet

The red I was looking at is the factory paint color on the car, flame red or something like that, its really bright.
What about white on the bottom, 6 inch black stripe, then the bright red on the upper half with u-coat it gray for the floor (been told the white shows way to much dirt).
Just trying to stick with collors related to the car.
My dads garage is an off white and just seems really plain to me.

I would swap the red and the white. Visually, it will be very off balance otherwise. Ever notice that chair rails, wainscotting and two tone applications tend to run darker at the base and brighter above the line (which is usually in the 31-33 inch range from the floor)? Your lights are above you, let them reflect as much as they can.

I'm not much for selecting colors but would look at a grey stripe, mostly I wanted to share something I have used with great success.
Exterior house paint. If you get something on the wall You can clean it with most any household cleaner without messing up the paint, it is capable of withstanding the outdoors for years and will last twice that long in Your shop.
Hope this helps,
Carl

Black is a bad idea.
Example of what these guys are talking about

notice the reflection off the floor helping with lighting under the car.

When ours was painted, I wanted the same thing that you did and seeing that I have a Millennium Yellow C5, I wanted to use those colors. I also didn'y wantthe garage to be to dark, so I used the white on the top and separated it with the black stripe. I might paint he black stripe a black/white checkerboard to see how it looks. I've yet to decide on a floor, lighting or a lift yet, but it's getting there. Next comes a TV, furnace and running water for washing the cars in winter (maybe drains too)! Since the picture, it's got a stereo setup out there now!
Good Luck! Here's what mine looks like:

So you guys think all white would be the way to go over say white on the bottom, red on the bottom, black stripe, white on top?
Id really like to do something other then all white, even if lighting suffers a bit.
Mrdragster, I am going to paint a picture of your car on one of the walls![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
Still can't start the car, still to cold for it.

What if you did white all the way up to the top and then like a 4 inch black stripe followed by a 10 inch red stripe. So just the Last 14 inches are colored it will be like a nice border all the way around the garage.

C5 looks great & looks nice & bright.
Juiced, you said red & black. I'm red & some black faded checkerboard. Not too dark.
Seriously, you need as much white as possible. My enclosed trailer had dark tan walls.
I painted them white & it was amazing. It was like night & day. At least the ceiling & top half should be white.
Good luck, nice to hear you're moving up in the world.
Our house is almost built, so I know you must be pysched.
Don't know if you noticed, I did fire up the new 557" W/fogger. It got so damn cold, I quit messing with it also. Good luck.

It wouldn't be the most efficient, but you could easily do something like that. I did mine the way that I did because I didn't want the "Plain white garage!"
While it is the most efficient, it's too sterile for me. I've got just 300w of incandescent light in there now, but have three 6 bulb fluoescents on the way to give me more than enough light despite my yellow and black walls. I'd put the white for the top color though.
