Has anyone heard of one of these before? I recently recieved an order from Summit and inside the little bag that always comes from summit was a little flyer about the "Smithy Metal Lathe". Apparently you can turn rotor, bore out metal, drill, make threads in holes etc with this thing. I could see how you could possibly save money with it by doing alot of your own machining at home.
Does anyone have one of these and is it worht the cash? I have been thinking of sending in the request for more info on it.

IMO they are overpriced and small. you would be better off finding a used gear-head engine lathe.
That lathe is $2695
If you got some room and a good 220 volt power supply, you could get a lathe twice the size and still have cash left over for tooling, mics, cailpers. I know some websites that just deal in used stuff, but it's all at work so i'll have to get it tomorrow.
