Default Weather-pak Crimp tool?

Looking to add one of these to my tool box. Any advice? Some crimp all in on motion, others require two crimps, some have interchangable anvils/dies/jaws others don't. Prices seem to be around $50 and up. Only want to spend the money once.

Thanks

If it's just your car, then the (blue handle) $50 compound version works great! If you are doing production work then it might make sense to spend the extra money.

Just finished my LQ9 into a Jeep with lots of electronics and once I got the hang of it, the connections were easy.

Good luck!

Where did you get your tool from? Local or over the net? Is it limited to certain guages or can it do from say 12 to 18?

Here is a crimper that I was looking at. Pretty good deal for the amount of things it covers.

That is a nice tool, and it may be hard to tell from the pics, but I don't see the correct die for the weatherpacks. Look at this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Weath...m360055252857&

I believe it is the die in the right middle picture. It has an A on the upper die and 1.5 & 2.5 on the lower die. I bought the same set you have posted at Napa. I just like the racheting crimpers a bit better.

Casper's Electronics it's ~$31 and has handled all of my 12ga & 18ga connectors without any problems.

That looks like a good entry level tool. Did you go with weather pak or metri pak for the terminals? The tool appears to do both. I am thinking the metri-pak is the more currentl technology?

In the past I have used www.waytek.com for my wiring needs, but I'll be checking these guys out.

Thanks

I used Weather-pak, but you can do Metri-pak with them. I had a number of Weather-pak connectors and it kept it from getting too complicated. I also like Waytek and just got a bunch of stuff from them to finish the odd connections. (I think Waytek also has that tool, and your characterization is right on; it's a good entry level tool.)
