Default Plasma Cutter Cut50d

How many of you guys have picked up this cheap cutter off ebay or the like? Was it worth a crap? Seems comparable to the Miller 625 and the Hypertherm model.

Most recommend thermal dynamics from what I've seen.

They just seem too cheap to be true really. The 3 in 1's scare me as well.

I picked up a 50 amp Plasma from Longevity but haven't tried it yet. Was $350 but better than the $1000 plus for a hyper or miller. Of course all is mute if it doesn't cut the mustard (pun intended)

I dunno about those cheapies.

Look at the fella that sent his in for service (next to last page). Weeks later and it's still not fixed. And the seller pops up with "personnel changes around here" blah blah blah. That's exactly what you will run in to if you have a problem with the cheapies. Nobody knows how to work on them.

I'm sure they work; probably just as well as a Hypertherm or a Miller. But if you ever have a problem, or need a new logic board or something, and the company goes kaput or has "personnel changes" again.... Well, your $700 welder just turned in to a disposable boat anchor, and you'll just end up buying the 'name brand' product in the end anyway.

Don't mean to sound negative about it, YMMV and all that. Just something to think about.

Yeah I thought about that as well after reading through that entire thread. I might have a line on a miller setup through a local scrap yard affiliate.

I just picked up a self contained Hobart Air Force 250 for $603 shipped on ebay. I used a buddies and had to have one for myself. It had a built in air compressor and will easily cut 3/8 plate. It will do anything 90% of us will ever need.
