But holding an inch drive impact makes you feel like a bad ***. You just feel like there is no bolt that you could not loosen, and you are probably right to a certain extent.

Have you guys ever seen how the inner guts work inside break-away torque wrenches? I have, and they're all virtually identical inside. If spending $300+ dollars on one makes you feel better, go for it.

I'm in the market for a new 1/2 drive torque wrench (250 ft lb max so I can use it on the crank bolt). Anyway, I have two Craftsman, and the plastic locking piece snapped off the 1/2 drive. Anyway, I've been reading various reviews, and it souns like Snap-on and Matco are recommeneded. However, I found one detailed review that hailed the Precision Instruments torque wrenches (made in US since 1938) http://www.torqwrench.com/. They are twice the price of Craftsman. They have the standard click wrenches, but they also have something called a split-beam wrench that is much more durable. Also, the sucker is 24 inches for increased leverage vs. the 17 on the Craftsman. Has anyone had luck with Precision Instrumnets? Thx!

My Advanced or autozone torque wrench has let my motor live to 7k. Also Alot of builders swear by the beam pointer types.
