I hope that helps.

The snake has slithered from his hole. Just kidding. Thank you for your reply.

Now, an answer to this question is what the LS1Tech community needs to hear: is there any work being done or any changes or improvements CURRENTLY taking place on the search feature for LS1Tech?

You can certainly reply with a simple "yes" or "no." That will suffice since we need to know so badly the state of our search feature. However, at least three sentences explaining your answer would be much better for the morale of this large automotive community.

Again, thank you. Sorry for dragging you out by your slimy, IB tail for the second time now.

Keep that thing on both wheels in front of squad cars.

If you don't use quotes AND sort by relevancy, though, you might as well forget about it. Search doesn't work without doing both, that I can tell.

"White Camaros": https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=7315593
"ZR1 wheels": https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=7315596
"Engine bay": https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=7315599

HOWEVER. For the "engine bay" search, for example, it left out the biggest engine bay thread on LS1 Tech, a thread that's still going strong. Has 'engine bay' mentioned in the title and more times in the thread than I can count. Has 443 posts and 63,039 views. That's a mega thread.

Where was it the results? Not on the first page. Not on the second page. Not on the third page. Not on the fourth page. Not on the fifth page. Well, what the ****, then?

Are results missing from my 'white camaro' and 'ZR1 wheels' searches? I don't know, but for my 'engine bay' search sure was. Don't know that the old search would have done better.

Don't know that this current search does so bad that people should be whining about it either, if you don't consider having to use quotes and sort by relevancy. LS1Tech is massive to the point that normal search engines -- like the ones from much, much smaller sites people are saying work fine -- aren't good enough. Why? LS1 Tech is bloated; blame newbs for asking redundant questions ("which oil is best?"), the people who respond to them like zombies ("I think this oil is best!"), AND people who respond with "do a search" without linking to another thread that discusses the issue. The latter of which almost ruined the search eingine when it did work. Two years ago, if you did a search for "Fikse wheels" you would get a first page full of people asking to see pics, but with no pics, just morons saying "Do a search" who didn't realize they were doing way more harm than good.

ANYWAY, why the **** am I the one saying this and not IB?!?! Adrian, get your Prius driving *** in one of these threads. I hear you're a good guy, but you've let this **** go on too long. Adress this thread TODAY. Make a sticky. Do SOMETHING.
Threads that ask for something only to get the response of "use the search" should be deleted immediately. It discourages people that use to search when threads like that are all they find and they eventually just post the same question themselves.

Stop the problem at the source and that part of it will work better.

The sort by thing really needs to come back. I just searched 'LS2 valve springs' and I get a bunch of results like this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...gured-out.html

I am going to answer yes and no.

We are doing changes and improvements, but is part of a more wholistic and integrated search package, and therefore not going to be available till about July or so.
The existing search has been tweaked as much as we possibly can, and there is little more we can do to it for the time being.

Out of curiosity, did you get that result when you did the 2 following things:

1. Put "ls2 valve springs" in quotation marks
2. Search by relevancy.

Here is an example of the first results I got when searching for valve springs: (O/T are you turboing?)

Thats completely fine if the changes you make arent gonna be available until July, but once they are made, are they going to pull up all the relevant threads like the old one used too and not a shitload irrelevant threads like this one? If its going to take months to fix fine but if this new one to be released is just going to pull recent threads then people will still bitch.

If you have to go to advanced search and search by relevancy to get anything useful, why would that not be the default start for the quick search? What a PITA

I don't know about you guys but when I went to the search FAQ page and clicked on "Advanced Search":

https://ls1tech.com/forums/faq.php?f...aq_usingsearch

it took me to this site:

http://www.honda-tech.com/search.php

Its especially funny to me because I used to be a Honda guy.... or perhaps I still am and its beckoning me to come back?

Very well. Search will remain as-is until July.

Now that you've answered this, anyone who cries about search is just whining. I'm not a fan about search either, but since I only pay sponsors and not LS1Tech, I can't whine.

Thank you for your replies.

Let 'em whine, it's called venting. The only good thing about this is we don't have to put up with some dude saying "do a search" every time we ask an "opinion related" question!

July isn't to far off I guess, maybe in the long run it'll be a better overall system.

I know this thread has seemed to be a bit of a "vent fest" but there's something I have to add. I have just finished using the search (and not advanced search, just search) and typed in "cobra weight" (in quotes) and actually got a lot of good, related thread come up. I also did quite a few other searches and was quite impressed, almost back as good as it was in my opinion now.

So I just thought, amongst all the bitching so many of us sometimes do, I have to give credit where it is due. Good work on trying to make the search feature more tolerable until updates and improvements/changes are completed. Thanks again.

ps. yes I'm researching on terminators lol. Not buying one but am fixing to beat one some day lol.

In reply to the two posts above this one, this thread wasn't a "bitch fest." It is full of valid complaints that needed addressed. As of today, the complaints were addressed. So, now everyone can wait until July and see if things improve. (Like I said, though, I don't have a big problem with search when using quotes and sorting by relevancy.)

I think the new notice was a good idea as well.

Recognize that quote? Yeah that's one you made not to many posts back in this very thread. Bitching, whining, same thing! I didn't mean it negatively.

Ps. who said that bitching can't be "valid complaints" anyways lol?

Just to set the record straight, if you want to cite someone and correct them make sure you are not contradicting yourself. I was trying to add positive feedback here!

Chill out, newb. I wasn't "correcting" you (or contradicting myself). I was pointing out that the complaints/bitching were valid since we weren't getting an answer. Now that we have an answer, the complaints/bitching from this point on are just hot air.

If you have something else to say about it, PM me.

Agreed, you have been here longer. I was simply commenting on your post as you did mine. I have nothing more to say in this since I'd like to keep a half decent reputation here on LS1tech.

To sum it up though, I'm glad that I can use search again almost as easily as before.

Search has always been a problem for me on this site. Yesterday I tried to find the stock size sway bars on a WS6 and spend around 10 minutes trying to get some results. Nothing. I thought it was my fault at first, but then I started reading on how to use the search, so I used quotes, advanced search, relevance sort, etc, etc, etc. All the threads that came up barely had anything to do with sway bars...

Sooo, after giving up on the search I went to http://www.google.com/sitesearch/

Typed in www.ls1tech.com as the url and "ws6 sway bars" as the query and 2 seconds later I had the answer...

When I have to leave this site to do a Google search for BMR's site, it frustrates me.

When I have to leave this site to do a Google search for "spring installation site:ls1tech.com", it makes me wonder why I'm still here.

Advanced search has been updated again https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php
- we will be updating the "quick search" (this is the little drop down boxes) hopefully tomorrow.
