Default question about trader ratings

i'm looking to buy an engine from a member here. so far, all communication has been PM's. I understand the reason for the 50-post minimum in regards to classifieds posting.

my question is if I buy something, will the seller be able to update my trader rating, and vice-versa? and in turn, could a substantial trader rating lift the ban from posting in classifieds?

thanks for looking,
d

There is nothing that says you cannot buy/sell/obtain trader ratings before 6 months/50 posts. You simply cannot post in the classified section. Thats the only restriction I know of. Your trader rating going up before your 6 months/50 posts is met only further alleviates some of the fears some buyers/sellers have with dealing with new members. The restriction however is automated so there is no bypassing it early.

As previously mentioned, it's a 50 post or 6 month restriction that's automatically handled by the system. Having an iTrader rating score is not taken into consideration by the system and would not automatically change the restriction.

It's my understanding the 50 post or 6 month membership is required not only to help minimize scams, but to also promote the community beyond buying and selling.

One of the original LS1Tech founders makes a note about the usage of the Classifieds (I emphasized the section below):

Post whoring (i.e. "cool, nice car, ..., sweet.....etc) to reach 50+ posts is not allowed. Post count will be reset to zero with or without any notification. If member is caught post whoring two times they will be banned.

Unfortunately, we've had to put this restriction on our site due to so many lurking scammers popping up and taking honest money. This restriction has helped to ring out a lot of the scammers looking to make a quick buck on our site. Posting for sale items in other forums to circumvent this rule is prohibited and the posts will be deleted.

After your 50th post, it takes a period of 24 hours to update your access to the classifieds forums. DO NOT make a post requesting instant access upon making your 50th post, the system is automated. The database updates certain records on a daily basis, it is not instantaneous. Any threads regarding this will be locked/ignored.

Please do not contact us asking to circumvent this 50 post rule. The system is automated and we do not make exceptions. We feel that the classifieds forums here are a privilege to contributing members, not a free service for new members.

unfortunately there's not many questions I have to ask about the engine until it's in hand. Also, i don't want to pollute the forum with senseless questions just to push a post count. But I will be burning up the keypad when I start dropping the motor in, especially with the AEM and turbo manifold install.

I'll be at 6 months soon, so this shouldn't be an issue for long. guess it's ebay for a while.........

thanks again for your responses,
D

i actually have a similar question. I joined the forum about a month ago after i saw a link at corvette forums (where i've been a senior member for over 4 years).

I've been posting around on these forums almost daily for a month and my post count is still zero? But i'm mostly asking honest questions in the for sale section. Does this area not count toward any post count?

I don't really care, i just don't want to be flagged as a spammer or anything

Take care guys and awesome site

Make sure to read the Stickies and Announcements as they contain important and frequently asked information:

We also have a 50 post minimum requirement (or 6 months membership) to post a new classified ad in the parts for sale forum. This was done to help reduce the potential of newly-registered scammers taking advantage of our members. Now they will have to post in the technical and racing forums to earn their post count, which may help turn them away.

Forums with disabled post-counting:

Introductions & Greetings
Signature Test Forum
Racer's Lounge
Multimedia Exchange
Street Racing & Kill Stories
All Classifieds Forums
All Regional Forums

Basically, if it isn't a technical forum, the posts do not count in it.
