Default Suggestion for the board regarding sponsors

I haven't been on this board for very long, but I've been on camaroz28.com for a little over 3 years now. The info on this board for LS1 vehicles has been extremely helpful and will be in the future as the mods keep coming. There is far more info on here than camaroz28 for LS1 vehicles. I didn't know about vendors such as Texas Speed and Thunderracing where IMO everyone with f-bodies needs to get their stuff from as the prices are fantastic compared to Summit or Jegs and many of the products offered, especially the line of custom grind cams, are superior. If it weren't for this site, I would have not known about such necessary mods as the drill mod. That alone could help save your tranny when powershifting and mean saving hundreds of dollars. There are many other items that could be mentioned, but I'm sure you get the point by now.

However, one thing I've noticed on here is that many people on here seem to be more wrapped up with buying only from sponsors and attempt to discredit other vendors who are not sponsors but who offer a good product, customer service, and lots of tech help on here. One famous example is Lane. There may be others, but he is the one mentioned the most. It is vital that enough money be donated here to help keep ls1tech online. But since there are so many of us on here who offer help in every way not to mention possibly making some friends, I feel that people like me who are just owners and enthusiasts of f-bodies ought to carry a portion of responsibility to keep this board running. By this I mean there ought to be a way for each of us to make a private donation (optional of course) to the site. Since there are thousands of us on here, it wouldn't take much at all from each of us for the money to add up quickly. I've been on other forums where this has happened, and the turnout was fabulous. Each person who donated received a banner by his screenname showing them to be a site sponsor. I have not seen or heard of anyone except for businesses being listed as a sponsor, but this can easily be changed.

With that in mind, I am willing to step up to the plate and contribute $25 and to do it annually. I am a college student so money is in short supply, but even if you can only muster $5, that's still worth something. 2000 people donating $5 apiece is $10,000, a very significant amount towards keeping the site.

I realize this is off topic and probably shouldn't belong in External Tech, but the reason for my posting in here was because this section seems to contain the most negative rhetoric towards nonsponsoring businesses (Lane for example). I hope the forum administrators take this into consideration as it could be a simple, effective solution towards keeping this wonderful site alive and hopefully cut back or eliminate the need for people to feel like they have to bash nonsponsors on here when they themselves can donate. thanks

Jason

I'd be down for that. I think you're a little late though. I've been hearing rumors that NineBall is gonna start selling VIP memberships. There are some threads around with more info, you should check 'em out.

There is no need for donations, we are well run.

Lane and I have talked off/on since 2002. To be honest, a number of companies can be hesitant to advertise on boards. It's really a no-brainer. Some of the biggest e-shops advertise on MORE than 10 boards per month.

We get over 25,000 unique ip hits every 24 hours. If that statistic alone does not grab folks, I don't know what does.

One of the reasons we are very sponsor-focused is that, for the most part, they get most of the business from this site, and they in turn appreciate that and respond with prompt service and prompt answers to questions. When folks talk about problems with non-sponsors, there is really nothing I can do. I have no relationship with Lane, or whomever, so there is no basis for us to do anything.

We've also dropped three or more sponsors since the formation of the site, due to those companies having problems with customer service or timeliness.

One last thing about folks not sponsoring on here... Folks can try it for a quarter and then go from there. Anyone who does not at least break even for the first month or two probably needs to retool their e-commerce approach. Even having just one special should pay for a quarter of advertising.

I am doin the "1 quarter try" and have over doubled my TB porting and almost doubled my cylinder head porting and have only been a sponsor not even a month now. Granted to make it last you have to make sure you have good customer service and consistency in product. It has payed for itself for me to have a website and sponsorship, now if I can just swing that 5 axis cnc milling machine and Superflow flowbench I have always wanted......
I also feel that there should be a VIP membership option. Not like it should be for status or anything but it would be good to show apreciation to those that contribute to the wellfare of LS1TECH.
