A chat Room would be awsome! trouble shooting or just to B/S set up cruiz' get togethers and what not, Not to mention it would help me and alot of my friends out there on tryn to get some good info instead of waitn for somone to post as reply when somone is havn trouble installing something or what not? just a sugestion.

Speaking as one of the two founders, I can tell you that I am not a fan of chat rooms they tend to be very offtopic, and if you scheduling meets you are better off using the relevant forums.

Yeah, I have to agree with that one. I have been in the chat room at Mustang Forums to talk cars with some of the guys over there and I usually get three jokers for one serious person. While, I am not opposed to chat rooms I can understand why we haven't seen one here.

Another problem is that if anything not off-topic actually gets discussed, it'd just disappear instead of being here on the board for everyone to see and be searchable years later.

This has been suggested several times before, don't think it'll ever happen

I definatly see the argument that it could definatly lead to off topic conversations...especially if theres ever a girl in the chatroom ! But I think it wouldnt be a bad place if you have a quick question on something that you could get advice on right away. A lot of times I am working out in the garage and come across a small problem that I ask about on here, but if its in a thread it usually takes about 30 min to an hour to get a good response depending on the question you have. Now in the scheme of things thats pretty damn quick (I love how fast I get answers on this board), but still if you are working on something you have to stop your work until you get an answer, where a chatroom might cut down on that time.

I hear you, but rarely have I been in a chat and someone asked me a tech question. Even when my old regional board, www.mfba.org had a chat board, it was mostly very offtopic.

Yeah, I understand. Usually if I want a quick answer though I check MSN, AIM, or Yahoo messengers to see if there is anyone online who could answer a question I may have. That seems to work out fairly well if you made some good contacts.

talkin to folks over IM is about the best you'll get. a chat room here would be a waste of resources.....the discussions wouldn't be saved and even if they were archived you'd have to sort through even more crap. Like has been suggested many times, if you want to start a chat up, start one through AIM or something.

Unfortunatly Ive only been this deep in this car scene since last summer so I havent really made any "friends" from this site or others that I have their screennames and can just IM them asking a question. I have friends who know a good amount about cars, but hey were 18 and 19, what the hell do we know. I am not suprised that most of the chats on these types of sites are off topic and dont involve much tech. How bout a social chat and a tech chat?? Lol, just a suggestion, I know that would be too much to handle. As for not being documented, most of the questions that people would want to ask in a chatroom(ideally) if asked on a thread have already been asked and they are told to use the search button(whew!)...then again things tend to not be ideal .

Either way this site is definatly more than helpful and is pretty damn good as it is.

Chat rooms would take a LOT of resources for a board of this magnitude to run, and I don't see it being as beneficial as the searchable threads are with their archives. Besides, as has already been stated, they typically turn into something totally irrelevant anyway, which can be found at Yahoo or many other sites that cater to a broader society. The admins at ls1tech and the sponsors that support them (thanks again guys) work VERY hard (trust me, I'm sure I'm right on this) to keep this the best source of ls1 information ANYWHERE on the 'net - and it's all available 24/7/365, free, without the use of chat rooms. It just wouldn't be worth it. IMO, if you use the search function properly, you'll find the answers to 99% of your questions, and that remaining 1% generally gets answered pretty quickly by someone who: a) knows what the hell they're talking about; b) isn't on here to be a smart-*** (well, most of us ); c) is someone you could very likely run into on the street as opposed to someone hiding behind a keyboard telling you to put a 'vornado' in your intake 'cuz it makes 35 hp. This coming from someone who HAS a site with a chat-room and hates it because it became a nightmare to babysit 'cuz the discussions have NOTHING to do with the site. In short, use search, READ STICKIES, and ask intelligent questions.
