If the user count seems "unusually" low, its because the database server daemon was restarted. When the DB restarts, the sessions table (which contains the users active on the system) is refreshed, so the user count jumps back to zero until you click a link.

Another complaint for extremely slow. This site is awesome, but it is slower by the day, and I'm on a T1 connection, it doesn't get much faster than that. So far today, I've been on for 15 minutes or so, and have had it go to the wonderful white page that says that the database can not be located atleast 5 or 6 times! This is getting old!!!! Ohhh, by the way, my first attempt to send this resulted in "Website not responding". Make that second attempt as well. Third attempt resulted in database error. This is starting to **** me off.

T1's are slow by todays' standards My cable connection at home is 3x as fast as a T1.. At work, I'm on a 10MBit dedicated fiber connection, which is 6.5x faster.
Anyway, YES we KNOW there's performance problems. Voting doesn't help fix them. Posting about it doesn't help fix them. Only me busting my *** every night hammering out code fixes them. I have a real job to put a roof over my head, and have other things in my life that have to get done as well -- so its not going to be fixed by snapping fingers. It takes time, but we're getting closer every day. Just hang in there

Take yer time, get it done right.
Some of us know how to wait for the RIGHT solution. Can be frustrating, but then again, I remember when I unboxed my "super fast 2400 bps modem" and everyone in the city was jealous, because I spent $400 on the damn thing!
(Keep up the good work, have a beer or twelve, and enjoy some time off for the holidays! The latency will still be here in the morning for you to fix )

Thanks again for all your hard work on the site, this place is a real resource. Please do not do what they've done on the Corvette Forum, the search features over there are next to useless and many of the mods/admin. are absolute control freaks which has created a very rigid environment.
You've done a great job here, any changes should be transparent IMO to keep the integrity of the site intact.
Thanks again Brains... now snap snap, get back to work!!!

CF has been forced to make a lot of those changes and restrictions to keep the site alive. It definitely adds a layer of complexity and difficulty, but they enjoy higher performance because of it. I'm trying like hell to build a software package, based on vBulletin, that works like everyone knows and loves. The proof is in the pudding though, and we really won't know how well it all works until all the work is done. Risky, but the end result will be well worth the efforts if it works.

first off, i would like to say thanks for all those that work so hard to keep this site running. there is a lot of work that goes on (some seen and some that is not) and we dont thank those who do it enough.
second, while i am no DBA, i know a little SQL and PHP. if you need somebody to help, i would be more than glad to see what i can offer. i dont think i am anywhere NEAR some of your all's abilities, but hey, every little bit helps right?

I second that.
I'm a web developer and I've built several fairly complex ecommerce sites with PHP/mySQL. If you need anyone to assist (even if it's just busy work that is not technically challenging) I would be than happy to volunteer some time. If not, good luck with it and I hope you get a good permanent solution.

I'll definitely need some help stress testing the new software (vBulletin on PostgreSQL) once its ready. We've got a handful of the moderators playing around and bug testing right now, and while there's a good handful of things that are still broken, its coming along very well..
