yea, me too, so I took a gander at the bottom of the page and noticed 2300 current users. I've never seen that many before. Since when did this start. I only remember when it was around 1000 during the middle of the day. haha wow...
IMO, the site has sped up for me. I've also noticed no more sponsor banners in the right column when in forums or posts. I am sure eliminating this has sped up things quite a bit. Kudos +1 to Brain for truncating some processes to increase speed of the site!
Some of you guys need to check your network card settings...if you have broadband. You may find that they are on a "auto-negotiate" setting and sometimes that will limit web speed. I've found with high-demand web browsing (ex: searching) and gaming, that the best settings are setting the card to FULL DUPLEX. Just a helpful tip for some folk with "slower" connections.

could you explain better exactly how to set it to full duplex right?

WinXP - right click "my computer", then click "properties", click "hardware" tab, click "device manager", go down to Network Adapters, click plus sign or double click adapters to reveal NIC, right click on your network card, click "properties", click "advanced" tab, then look at your "connection type" - set "value" to 100baseTx full-duplex.
You can also access the same thing via the control panel, then network adapters.

I tried that and it didn't work, I had to switch it back to full autonegotiation.
Not sure if it's my computer though. Sometimes it takes so long to log on here it times out. I can try to log on here and while I'm waiting minimize the window and open up another websites forum and it pops right up while still waiting for this site.

Delete your folders/files in your Temp folder, as well as, your Temporary Internet Folder and then delete all your cookies.
I know when I was browsing last night, I got a "timed out" page load...but the site has been fast, for me, since Brian removed the user list at the bottom and the bountiful amount of ads over on the right.
