region search

I might have stated this before, but i cant remember and im pretty sure ive never gotten any good responses for it

I've been thinking about this for awhile and ive seen it being used on Fquick

A area search, which involves zip codes to locate those around you...

All the time i see new guys that are in my area, that post in random areas. Id like to socialize with them, and invite them to meets. We have meets once a month in my area and 20-30 guys usually show up, most guys being off of here.

However I feel that there could be alot more guys if i was able to see who all on here was in my area. It just sucks that you either have to randomly see guys post that are near you, or hope they post in the region forums.

Just posting something in the "user CP" asking for a zip would make this website more socialable in the real world.

Please no smartass remarks, i'm posting this in an effort to help this site, because i believe it can. I know it can be done, its been done on a startup website(fquick)

I like the idea... but with as many problems as the site runs into with search already, who knows how reliable it'll be!

in reality it really wouldnt even be a search in that maginitude.....

look on fquick....its got a small link on the garage page "members in users area"....

you click it and it takes you to a page with a list of everyone within a certain mile radius of you....

im sorry but there are a few features on here id gladly stop using to save bandwidth if it meant having an option that would help me MEET actual members on here

There used to be some sort of Google map floating around. That is basically what you are asking for.

see thats the thing...im glad you care about the texas owners...but that doesnt help me out in florida...

tony ill check into that and see if its like my idea....thanks

The problem with implementing a search feature based on information provided to the website is twofold: right now the site's search feature has enough issues, which while there are solutions in the pipeline, no new projects are being tackled until search is fixed.

Second, maybe half of the board actually lists a zipcode in their location box, which is what would be required to "accurately" place them in a map or sort them by a search.
