post it up here, common opinion is the quickest way to get something considered. if there is a lot of support, quicker to get considered/implemented.

its also the easiest way to get something shot down, not by correct consensus but peer pressure....

anyways i can do so.....

i was wanting to know if we can just add total sticky section for "how to's" ie like we have noobie tech section

i understand software capability and that cant be overcome, but the understanding of it is easy....

i would like something where the technical experienced guys on here can write how to's and just have them stickied....to not be added to, in one complete area....there is install university for somethings, but why should we have to leave this site? we have wiki....but honesty most people are to lazy to once again leave this site to search something else....

i post alot in the repair section and theres alot of the same post, not that i care to help people, but it would be so much more easier if we had for example

how to change spark plugs---
how to change oil---
how to change tires---
how to install oil sending unit---
how to install headers---
how to install manifold---

i understand that many different people might have their own specific way to do something BUT everything has a general direction which can be followed.

we have alot of stickys but most of them are on appearance of something or reviews of something...

we have sponsors new products forum, staff cars forum, and some others we cant post in, thats fine but i would like the "how to" section to be the same so it wouldnt get crazy, if someone would like to submit a "how to" i think it should be review by a mod, we have plenty mods, and if its viable either add it to a current "how to" sticky or make it, its own.

this is a techinical website by name and appearance and i believe that anything viable to the site that would make it easier for users or help them out should be considered....

thanks for considering......

also something on a side note....i made about 30 WS avatars the other night ....wish i could upload them somehow....

That is an idea that has been brought up before, and its a good one. Lots of people think that if they aren't going to read a sticky in the section they're in already, why would they go to a section of how-tos?

The other thought is, if they are all in the same place, it would make looking for them much easier.

I think its a great idea. We had a how-to section where folks could create things, but nobody really did anything with it. If we secured enough volunteers and they actually wrote the how-to's with pictures and such, then maybe we could get something going.

How to fly-cut

How to rod-bolt install

How to fan diagram

How to nitrous wiring

How to sea foam

How to store a car

How to shifter removal vette

How to spring install

How to ceta panel

How to reduce wieght

well ive gathered a few together, but as everyone can see we need more. I believe visibility on the main page is the key...i would have no problem adding to this, i think something important though is that the section be strictly sticky, otherwise it would directly like other discussion areas

I like the idea as well.

If you look around the site, there are a ton of write-ups in various stickies or even in people's sigs. Lots of great posts that I see including write-ups as well, but since it's just one post within a larger thread that isn't really sticky-worthy, it just gets lost and can only be found with a search.

Would be great to have a section just for write-ups. Once posted, it should become read-only to keep things on topic. And perhaps we could even have links to sub-sections for multiple write-ups on the same topic (many people have their own tricks that some might find better than others). That way members could read say 4-5 write-ups about the same thing and pick and choose any differences/tricks that best suit their application or situation.

I agree. I've thought about this before, like RPM said alot of people have how to's in their signature, but that can become a pain to search for.
If it was all in one area, and we accumulated everything it would also cut down on alot of posts. (one would assume.) Which would ease the servers a lil bit and hopefully keep the search up for good! (high hopes)
