Ok, hope this helps. Narrow the search criteria by time.....

Even search for such a broad term as "catback" it returned responses in under half a second, no matter how far back I asked it to search.

Please, LEARN TO USE THE SEARCH, before you complain about it. That is all.....

Cyphur, if that actually worked, that would be great. But it never does ever since the search function has gone under the knife. At least for me, if I try to change any of the time related search options, the request ALWAYS times out.

Hang in there guys, hopefully it will be fixed soon.

ok well I tried changing the time but now all it does is time out like MikeG said. I wasn't complaining i just did not see where anyone had said anything so I was just trying to inform and find out if anyone else had this problem. Sorry didnt mean for it to come across the wrong way.

I'm having the same issue. For example, if I search for "cartek" in the Manual Transmission Forum, the most recent threads that come up are from 2003. If I use advanced search and limit the time in any way (it doesn't matter whether it's a year ago, six months ago, a week ago, etc.), search just sits there for as long as I'm willing to stare at it (> 5 minutes at the longest) before I stop it within the browser.

Under what conditions are you getting search to work? I'm using IE 6.0 on a W2K machine.

Search by forum is not currently up and running, so for now I think you are going to have to narrow your search.

Brains is on vacation, and will be back soon. I've seen the capabilities of the new search engine when used properly(requires more user knowledge and interaction currently than the old one, using operators and such). When he gets the GUI up and running for the new search, and finishes tweaking how it handles requests, I think we won't see nearly as many threads about search being fuxored.

FWIW, when everyone says "why can't it work like such and such". Most other forums our size archive lots of content, some charge a membership fee to see that content. Others just flat out remove the content all together. We have 99.999% of our original content from Day 0, and its all live on the database. No membership fees, no restrictions. We're going through some growing pains right now, so bear with us. We don't have a team of programmers working this site full time, we have one guy - Brains, and while he is one badass SA, one man can only do so much so quickly.

I know, it sucks to have all this information and no effective tool to sort through it. It makes our jobs(the staff) more difficult as well. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, just hang tight for a few more weeks and you should see some more tangible progress.

yea i've also tried changing the date in advanced search, etc and it just times out. this is especially frustrating when looking through the parts for sale section as there are literally DOZENS of new posts per day. there was a search problem a few months back here and it was fixed in like 3 days. i really hope this doesnt take too much longer, or even weeks like cyphur intimated.

changing the time to within the past year. Has been time outs every time, about 5-8 times I tried that.
